Day-By-Day itinerary
Day 1, Gondar-Sankaber
Drive from Gondar towards the first campsite in Simien mountains national park – Sankaber (3hrs drive). We will have about 2-3hrs walk before the campsite to see the Gelada baboons, and after a short break at campsite we will have around 30-40 minutes walk around the campsite. Over night Sankaber campsite (3250m) camping.
Day 2, Sankaber-Gich (6-7 hrs)
Walk from Sankaber campsite to Gich campsite via Jinbar waterfall (540m high), & through Gich village. After a short break in Gich campsite we will have a short hike to Kedadit (3760m), to see the sunset & the dramatic view. Then overnight at Gich campsite (3600m) camping.
Day 3, Gich-Chennek (7-8 hrs)
Walk from Gich camp to Chennek campsite via Imtgogo (3926m) which offers extremely pleasurable breathtaking scenic beauty. Pass Inatye (4070m), overnight in Chennek campsite (3620m), camping.
Day 4, Chennek-Ambiko (6-7 hrs)
After breakfast you will walk from Chennek to Mount Buwahit pass from where you can look at the peak of Ras Dashen which you will scale tomorrow. Incredible views are seen as you take the path down towards Meseha valley; you cross a river and head to Ambiko where you camp for the night.
Day 5, Ras Dashen (8-9 hrs)
Your big trek heading up to Ras Dashen starts with an early morning hike before sunrise. through a valley before ascending up the mountain with a steep climb amidst the Giant Lobelia plants. The final part of the climb will be challenging but rewarding as you reach the highest point in Ethiopia! At 4,543m you will have amazing views of the immense landscape. Finally you will descend to Ambiko campsite for the night.
Day 6, Ambiko-Chennek (7-8 hrs)
A big day of hiking to take you from Ambiko down to the Meseha River and then lunch at the small village of Chiroloba. You will climb up t the Buwahit pass (4,430m) and then descend again to Chennek camp site to stay overnight or you can drive straight back to Gonder.
Day 7, Gondar
Drive back from Chenek to Gonder, via Debark – a five hour trip, and then a rest in town which you will have earned!
